Grabbing the CO₂

The cycle begins

An enzyme called RuBisCO grabs one molecule of Carbon Dioxide from the air and attaches it to a five-carbon molecule (RuBP).

STEP 2: REDUCTION

Using the Energy

This is the payoff phase. The ATP and NADPH from the light reactions are used to 'reduce' the three-carbon molecules, converting them into a high-energy, three-carbon sugar called G3P.
